And the Winner is...

Who is the winner of my rejection T-shirt? I bet you can hardly wait to find out! I have read all your comments from my post two weeks ago (if you missed it, you can read it here) and made my final decision.

In third place is Patsy, who said that she hadn't just got her share but other people's as well! (we don't need to feel too sorry for Patsy though, as since then she's had a lot of good luck).

In second place is Nicola, who gave an extremely strong case for winning with a favourite story that did the rounds but still failed to hit the mark. Since then, she's said that she's not going to waste her energy moping but is putting it to good use writing her novel.

So here it is... in first place is Claire. Claire has written stories, poetry, readers letters and articles but she hasn't collected a heap of rejections like the rest of us. Why? Because she hasn't had the courage to send them. In a way Claire has rejected her own work and that is so sad.

So congratulations Claire - you are a winner after all and that is because you pressed the submit button on my blog! I hope that this T-shirt will be a reminder that we all (published and unpublished) get our share of rejection from time to time but that rejection is a sign that we have been courageous enough to submit our work.

Claire is a young writer and I'm sure you will all want to give her the encouragement she needs to send out her writing... then, one day, she might have the chance to win again.

  1. Well done Clare - and don't be shy about submitting. You have to send it out there to have any chance at all, and rejection is very rarely personal. Good luck!

  2. Aw, Claire - you must submit your work. Rejections do sting a bit - particularly the early ones - but seeing your work in print more than makes up for that. Lots of luck.

Great post, Wendy. I wish I'd see the earlier post because I've got some great rejection stories. I'm sure I'd have been in with a chance of winning.

    xx

    1. You can hold them over until next time. Suzanne - when Claire hands back the T-shirt.

  3. Go on, Claire - send something out. If you do it's likely you'll get some rejects and you won't like those at all. They hurt less though over time, so the sooner you start collecting them, the sooner you'll stop worrying about them.

  5. Well done, Clarie! Do have a go and submit your work - it may be the only way to truly improve your writing. I'm sure you won't keep the rejection T-shirt for long - as success isn't far away & many of us are queuing up to take it back!!

  6. I do hope Claire finds the courage to submit. Although I know it can be daunting. Sometimes even now, once my story is ready, I have to rush to the post box, or press send quickly, before I change my mind.

  9. Claire, wear it with pride and hit that send button or post that story (not forgetting the SAE :)). You have all of our support so do it TODAY!! And let us know. If your first attempt is published then we will all enjoy reading it, if you get it back, then relish in the fact that someone, other than yourself has read your work. That in itself is a great feeling. Good Luck, keep writing and keep smiling. 'Hit the Send Button' is a great idea for a story :)
