Is there a Man Drawer in Your House?

This post is for my writing friend, Tracy (owner of the very large rucksack and long-suffering companion at the WW workshop). We were sharing tea and a chat at another writing friend's house, yesterday and the conversation moved on from writing to other things - namely, the existence of The Man Drawer.

If you haven't seen it before, I plead with you to watch this famous Michael McIntyre clip on Youtube - it is so accurate.

If you can't be bothered to watch the clip (though you'll be missing a treat if you don't) I will fill you in. 'The Man Drawer', as Michael says, 'is the man's little zone in the house and they fill it with things they think they need'. There will be light bulbs, batteries, instructions for things you don't own any more and keys for houses you no longer have.

The picture at the top of the post, is my husbands Man Drawer and I'm sure he won't mind me showing you it. I had a look to see if there were any of the above objects hidden away in it, and this is what I found...

.... evidence that the contents of The Man Drawer are standard and universal.

Then I decided to see what the strangest object was in the drawer and I found this.... any ideas anyone?

Tracy's husband has a man drawer and I bet your husband/partner does too... I dare you to look in it an share with us the contents.

  1. I love that MM clip - I laughed my socks off when I watched it on the telly - until I realised that the man drawer is mine!!!

My husband never puts anything away nor knows where anything is, so there's no point in him having a drawer. And instructions? Why would he need those?

And yes, my man drawer does contain all of the above mentioned items - apart from the strange blue thing and I don't know what that is either.

  2. Yes, mine has such a drawer but it was me who found the batteries we needed in it last night as he'd forgotten he'd put them in there!

  3. How lovely to see my name on here! Forgotten we'd had this chat, along with all the gushing about writing. I will get my two tame geeks to look over your mystery object - it looks familiar to me, suggesting hubby has one in his man drawer... (actually as an engineer he not only has man drawers, but boxes, trays and piles of plastic stackable containers too)

  4. Wendy, we have a man drawer, it's great, because if he asks where's such and such, I'll say, in the drawer, and it usually is:))) I've got a wardrobe that my daughter threatens to blog about as well, so I'd better keep quiet.

    1. Now of course, Susan, I am dying to know what's in your wardrobe.

    1. Me too, Teresa - he's about the only comedian I laugh at. When I find out what the odd blue thing is, I shall let you know. I'll have to ask the owner of the man drawer!

  6. We call our man drawer the miscellaneous drawer. We have three man drawers - as one fills up, another one appears. And don't talk to me about the garage. That has a chapter all of its own.

    1. I think from now on you should re-name it The Man Drawer, Maggie. Three man drawers... now that is a lot of batteries and radiator keys!

  7. I'm afraid I don't have any drawers (if you'll pardon my turn of phrase) but I do have FIVE sheds. And a workshop. I must be compensating for writing as Julia...

    1. FIVE sheds! Now that is rather excessive... I'm not even going to ask what's in them!
