How exciting to be part of a
blog chain thingy!
Patsy Collins asked whether
I would like to be one of her victims and who was I to refuse such a kindly
request.
Here are the questions that
I have to answer:
What am I currently working
on?
At the moment I am not working
on anything as I am trying to give myself some 'White Space' (see post last
week) but when I start up again after Christmas, I shall be concentrating as
usual on my womag stories. I shall also be working on the third and final
instalment of my serial for The Peoples Friend and I have an idea for an article
that I want to start.
That's a difficult one and
probably one that only regular readers of the three magazines I write for can
answer. What I will say, is that I am not afraid to push the boundaries: for
example I have written first person stories to magazines that generally prefer
third, stories from a male POV to ones that usually like female protagonists
and have covered many sensitive subjects such as bereavement, disabilities and
illness.
Because I haven't had the
'big idea' yet that would make me want to write anything longer. I like the immediate
gratification you get at the end of the relatively short length of time it
takes to write a short story and the thrill every time one is in print. I'm
probably too impatient to have to wait a year or so to complete a project.
It's all very random and
sporadic. I set myself the task of writing at least one story a week - if I
write two it's a bonus. I don't have set times or days when I write - I tend to
fit it around other things I am doing. I edit as I go along and then give the
story to my husband for a final check and it is his job to tell me that Jim has
turned into Tom halfway through the story.
Amanda Brittany
writes short stories for magazines. Her stories have been published in
magazines in the UK , Australia and Sweden . Amanda's blog is called Writing Allsorts
Finally, my I take this opportunity to wish all you lovely readers a very Happy Christmas and I'll be back for a round up at the end of the year.
Lovely to read about your work in this way, Wendy - good luck with that PF serial! Have a wonderful Christmas.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Rosemary and have a wonderful Christmas yourself.
DeleteOh no! I wasn't quick enough to be the first one to comment. Hope you'll forgive me.
ReplyDeleteGreat answers. Random and sporadic is THE way to work!
Happy Christmas.
Yes, Rosemary beat you to it, Patsy... but you couldn't have missed out to a nicer person!
DeleteI am always so impressed by your ability to write a story a week, Wendy. That is something to be proud of!
ReplyDeleteThank you for inviting me to part of the chain. Best wishes for a Merry Christmas - though probably a damp one in West Sussex!
Yes, sad about the weather isn't it,Tracy - taking Bonnie for a walk is not fun in the mud. See you over on your blog next week for your link in the blog chain thingy..
DeleteHmm. A whole new story in a week? And I think I'm doing brilliantly if I manage one a month, although my excuse is that I'm also working on The Novel (working title: The Never Ending Novel!)
ReplyDeleteHope you have a lovely Christmas!
Ha ha. Good name for a novel, Linda. Mine is called The Never Started Novel.
DeleteGosh, a story a week - I'm so impressed. And a teeny bit envious - I often don't even manage one a month.
ReplyDeleteAll best wishes for a fab Christmas and New Year. x
Thank you and to you too, Suzanne.
DeleteWell done Wendy, on doing it right. I didn't want to press people to chain blog, I love all my followers too much for that. Have a great break. xx
ReplyDeleteIt was easy, Susan... I just used the thumb screws!
DeleteIt's always good to know how other writers work and what they're up to. Thanks for the invite to join the chain.
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure, Keith.
DeleteGreat blog post Wendy, I always love reading how other writers work (a great procrastination tool). Like others I am so envious of your ability to finish one story a week and to be able to do it sporadically I have to plan my week of what I am writing and when or nothing happens. Anyway have a great Christmas and a writing prosperous 2014
ReplyDeleteThank you Claire, and a very happy Christmas to you too.
DeleteWendy - good to meet a fellow serial-writer. I've just had approval of my second instalment - four to go! All the best with yours.
ReplyDeleteAs it was my first, I just went for a short three parter so only one to go now, Kate.
DeleteThank you for inviting me to join the chair, Wendy! I hope you had a lovely Christmas.
ReplyDeleteI did, Mandy, thank you. Look forward to your link in the blog chain thingy.
